Primitive accumulation of land refers to the practice whereby the powerful leaders or politicians in government take proprietary rights of portions of land and consequently turn the resident community into a disposed of low-class society. The authors portray what happened in the process of land ownership in the post-Haitian earthquake as "primitive accumulation" because the government forcefully repossessed land from the natives and allocated it to private investors. In other words, producers were typically disassociated from their ways of yielding and forced to rely on merchandise flurries for subsistence which is a long-lasting disputed practice enlivening much of the history of Haiti.
