Geographic information systems are those systems that are made to take, store, change, process, manage and present geographical information to the concerned parties. In general, GIS represents systems that combines, stores, makes changes, distribute and provide geographic information thereby, allowing users to make interactive queries, analyze data, edit maps and provide the information to concerned parties (Spartial Information ClearingHouse, 2014). The paper looks into the commonly used GIS applications, the perception on the applications by the manufacturers, and the strengths and weaknesses of the products.
GIS Applications
Wolf-GIS is a commonly used software that is a free and recommended for remote computations thereby giving access to comprehensive information of the land resource in conjunction with the GIS functions.
Maps 3D provides tracks for sporting events that include bikes, hikes, and Ski; thereby providing extremely new views of the world hence giving precise and essential data using programmed 3D elevation models (Environment and Ecology, 2016).
GIS Pro is a multipurpose software working both online and offline; it has downloaded maps that show topographies, street maps, and satellite pictures that are stored on one’s device.
ArcGIS provides maps that appear alive. The application gives actual overhead photographs of a given location, hence taking out the uncertainty of knowing a particular location. The distant view provided when offline is a notable feature of the application.
