Florida remains one of the few states that still represent the traditional American values. Such values include free speech, rights to bear arms, less government interference in terms of fewer taxes and regulations, freedom of worship, and equal application of the law to all citizens (Bacevich, 2020). In America, Florida is one of the eight states that don't charge income tax on the State level. This is the bedrock of the Republican Party. The State Legislature enjoys a comfortable Republican majority in both chambers, and the Governor is a republican. Thus, it is safe to assume that FL is a red state; however, on the Presidential level, Obama was able to flip the State in 2008 and 2012. Since 2011, American politics has been polarized to both the extreme ends of the political paradigms. This has not spared any of the parties in the sense that they are also divided inside. For instance, within the Republican Party, the establishment members are often loathed as the RINOs (Republicans in Name Only). Likewise, there is an emergence of the progressive democrats whose radical views don't sit well within the DNC establishment. In 2011, Florida elected Rick Scott as Governor.
