While interacting with different materials this week, I realized that although learning when working in a diversified place was the most obvious, it was also the most impactful. Often, people overlook or undermine the benefits they can gain by routinely interacting with coworkers from different cultural backgrounds. However, I have real-life experience of how transformative this exposure can be in one’s perspective on life. In this context, the quote, “This is just one more reason why a diverse workplace can make you smarter,” enabled me to introspect my awareness of cultural differences by interacting with a Buddhist workmate with inspiring views about life (Markman, 2015). One of the learnings I drew from this relationship was the idea of remaining mindful, a fundamental factor in becoming a productive professional. This aspect challenged my thinking significantly, transforming me from a person who concentrated on completing a task into one who cared about the process and its effect on my peers. Thus, due to their cultural richness, this resource reminded me about the everyday opportunities for enlightenment when working in diversified settings.
