      Sociology Name Institution Date                     Sociology Question # 1             Symbolic interactionists tend to concentrate on social behavior, how people interact with one another using languages and symbols that help to give meaning in life’s experience (Griffiths et al., 2016). For example, a man has a sibling whom has had rivalry with for a long time. The man sees his sibling to receive unfair outlook because the sibling gets more than the man in some way and all this takes place through social situations and communications. In one event, the sibling is promoted within a month of being hired and because the man does not believe his sibling has the skills, he then perceives this situation as unfair. This event is symbolic to the man because he sees the sibling to have unfair advantage. In a place of work, individuals create and shape the society around and by doing so people will create conversation, ideas, and thoughts. Individuals will also interact with each other through phones by sending and receiving text messages and even online just to create one’s reality. Question # 2             Race is associated with biology and humans are classified into groups that are based on social relations, physical traits, and ancestry (Griffiths et al., 2016). Ethnicity on the other hand is associated with culture and is a category of people who share a common tradition, or common ancestry. People confuse these two because ethnicity can be used o identify one’s race such as ancestry however ethnicity can be changed whereas race cannot be changed. Thomas Theorem states that, “If men define situations as real, they are real in their consequences (Griffiths et al., 2016).” Race and ethnicity are socially constructed but real in their consequences. In race people have been chosen as superior or inferior based on skin color and in our case black people were singled out as inferior by white people something which led to slavery of black people.
