The five stages described are denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Denial is a sensible or insensible repudiation to admit realities, and facts associated with the condition in question. Anger is the pain of accepting the reality and can be targeted at inanimate things, total strangers, comrades or household. Bargaining is the ordinary response to emotions of helplessness and susceptibility is always a requirement to re-attain power. Depression is of two forms; the initial nature being the response to the real consequences associated with the loss. The other type of depression is the people’s secret preparation to part ways and to say goodbye to their beloved ones. Acceptance is the final stage where people start to accept the reality of the condition they are in.
Evidently, the above stages are a reality of the things people experience; thus, I do agree with the author. Death is a painful experience that no one wants to go through at any time due to the connection between the dead and those left. Several critics have argued against the work of Elisabeth such as Bonnano and Jennings, who claim that she did not consider the feelings of the involved and their connections. They argue that people do not grief after demise but stay calm always.
