Recycling involves the reutilization of construction and demolition (C&D) waste to repurpose (Omer et al., 2022). This improves economic and environmental sustainability by providing adequate resources while reducing or preventing the worsening situation of the carbon footprint levels on Earth. Notably, the most vital recycled materials are mild steel, doors, windows, structural steel, and sundry metals. These can be recycled, refined, and reused via judicious processing (Chen et al., 2016; Banshal et al., 2017).
Recycling materials will be categorized as recycled concrete aggregates (RCAs) or recycled aggregates (RAs). To convert the waste materials into these, religious cleansing of contaminants, including wood particulates, gypsum, paper, cardboard, glass, and polymers, must be done to gain reusable items. Many techniques can be utilized, including separation, pneumatic separation, dry density stratification, and spiral segregation. After segregation, the materials will undergo cleansing, and the value of the C&D aggregates will depend upon the quantity of entrained mortar. Frequently, in recycled materials, RCA comprises 70% of coarse and fine aggregate and 30% of cement binder (Banshal et al., 2017; Czarnecki & Rudner, 2023).
