Summary of the Article
The journal, ‘Using the Organizational Cultural Assessment (OCAI) as a tool for a new team development’ by Jeff Suderman is a report on evaluation on how a psychometric tool can be used by a new organizational leader in the development of a team. OCAI is a tool that was developed to help organizations identify their current organizational culture and the one they prefer to achieve. OCAI entails research on the feelings of the workers in an organization on the culture and what they feel should change (Suderman, 2012). Suderman analyzed how this psychometric tool can be used in the development of new teams in an organization by a new leader.
The article entails an in-depth analysis of these tools and some of the factors that make suitable in assessing the existing and preferred organizational cultures. Suderman defines organizational culture as key values, beliefs and practices shared by members in an organization. He gives two roles of these cultures which include how workers relate and how the organization relates to the external environment. In the analysis, he used a case study where the tool was seen to have been successful in the development of a working team by a new leader.
Suderman analyzed coaching which he defined as the process of working with a group aiming at equipping them with the skills to handle specific tasks and work together as a team. He explained that the process of using the psychometric tool in the development of new teams can be used in coaching to foster the creation of better working teams (Suderman, 2012). The journal goes further to include various case studies on counseling, coaching and development of teams in the bid to express how OCAI can be used in team development.
Quantitative and Qualitative measures
Quantitative measures include comparing the past, current and future factors or data. Comparing these data will help draw conclusions on the progress. Such data can only be used as a quantitative measure since it is in data that can be counted. Qualitative measures listed in the article include the use of OCAI to analyze the organizational culture so as to determine the approach to use in coaching. The data collected here is qualitative in the sense that it cannot be counted numerically but is still impactful on the process.
