1 Explain the causes and consequences of Bureaucratic Authoritarianism in Chile
Governments have had different ways in which they conduct business. Some countries practiced the bureaucratic authoritarianism system of government during the early years. This system of governance included the ruling government changing its way of doing things by transforming its ruling system depending on the changes in the industrial sector and the hierarchical social systems of the people (Freeman & Perelló, 2021). A bureaucratic authoritarian government was not democratic and did not have empathy for anyone to be in power. Chile was one of the countries that experienced bureaucratic governing systems. There was freedom of expression in Chile, but later on, it ended during Pinochet's government (Garreton Merino, 1995). This form of governing, the bureaucratic authoritarian governance, had its advantages.
In Chile, the bureaucratic system of governance helped change and improve the country's economy. Governments that adopt bureaucratic authoritarians first have to change from the politics of popularity, whereby the technocrats have low chances and levels of tolerance for this type of popular politics (Garreton Merino, 1995). For any government to change its system of governance to a bureaucratic authoritarian system, there have to be adjustments in the political system and the economy. In Chile, there was a government that Allende was running. One, Pinochet planned for a coup to overthrow Allende's government, which meant Chile would be under military rule. Chile had struggles running its economy, and even before Pinochet got into power, it had declined in its imports and growth.
2 Regardless of the specific case, explain some of the common drivers/causes of successful revolutions in Latin America.
One fundamental cause of revolutions in Latin America is the need to overthrow dictatorial regimes and replace them with democratic ones. For example, in the case of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega on the Sandinista National Liberation Front had to be overthrown by his citizens to pave the way for a democratic system of leadership (Thaler, 2017). The president had abandoned the ideals and promises that his party had made to Nicaraguans. The president had reconciled with his enemies and enjoyed tremendous support from the clerg...
