Brief History of NIL
NIL is a law by the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) to pay college students for using their Names, Images, and Likeness (NIL). The passing and upholding of NIL were to protect amateur athletes who are rising stars in colleges. Initially, college student athletes could not get paid for their participation, and they could even get punished by institutional administrations for being compensated after participating. NIL was first passed in California on September 30, 2019, before the other states followed suit to pass the law. NIL is interpreted as a law, defending the right to publicity and allowing individuals to capitalize on what they own, such as names, appearances, and abilities. Such developments support talent growth and encourage other aspiring athletes to engage themselves in discovering their potential.
According to the history of NIL, management of student athlete affairs is crucial to ensure they are well nurtured and introduced into the industry under firm foundation and mentorship. The history of NIL dates back in 2009, when a former basketball player filed a lawsuit against NCAA for using his NIL without his consent. The lawsuit sought an injunction to support players' compensation for using their NIL. Between 2009 and 2014, 20 more athletes joined the lawsuit as plaintiffs, thus triggering the quick action of the court, which led to the court ruling against the NCAA. In 2019, California passed NIL, and three months later, NCAA began to amend the law. In 2021, the court hindered the NCAA from imposing restrictions on NIL since it was for the benefit of the athletes; a month later, NCAA permanently upheld the provisions of NIL and allowed athletes to directly benefit from their NIL, a move that led to athletes signing deals and getting sponsors.

I also believe in promoting development among athletes to unlock personal potential and improve performance in all areas of physical activity. In my community, people believe that self-protection is crucial; therefore, learning martial arts is mandatory for all children and youths. Having grown up and schooled there for my primary education, I learned martial arts, which is a sport that helps in self-defense against physical attacks. Also, the sport was crucial since it facilitated to instill of discipline in me, an aspect that has been very instrumental in the way I relate with people and handle situations. The discipline and self-control virtues I learned based on my cultural background are very important since they determine my ability to handle social pressures and promote resilience. Therefore, I believe that having Chinese origin and roots would be very helpful in handling myself and engaging other parties in peaceful negotiations. I have also traversed different cultural regions a...
