A summary of the text
From the general structure of his work, the first section entails the Transition from Common Sense Knowledge to Philosophical Knowledge about Morality. In this section, he elucidates what goodwill is as he states that nothing can feasibly be formulated which can be alluded to as good without qualification besides a Good Will. The sight of an individual with gifts and talents of luck but with no goodwill cannot bring pleasure to an unbiased observer. Self-control, calm disposition and moderation, and other deeds are only good when accompanied by goodwill. Goodwill is not good because of its impacts; Kant states that goodwill is good because of its willingness only (Bennet, 2017).
