Flexibility and adaptability in any field improve professional practice, but ethics and legal considerations are taken into account. One of the most important strengths is the capacity to take into account ethical decision making regardless of the situations. Even when faced with ethical dilemmas the ability to recognize my limitations and the assumptions of clients has been valuable to enhancing professionalism (Herlihy & Corey, 2015). Having a professional identity that is separate from the individual identity means that it is possible to make a positive contribution, given that it is easier to point out what can be tolerated. Helping clients is a top priority in the counseling process, and I am more likely to discuss my feelings with the supervisors and colleagues. Open communication supports, the helping process to achieve the desired counseling goals. In a multicultural society, addressing the needs of diverse clients improves their welfare, while selecting ethical strategies. However, there is also a challenge to strike a balance between client preference and professional values when faced with value conflicts (Neukrug & Milliken, 2011). Counselors should ensure that their values do not interfere with the counseling since unresolved issues are likely to affect the practitioner’s ability to work with the clients. At times, it is more difficult to determine when one is effective, especially when dealing with many clients. It is important to note that one cannot work with all clients a during limited time. Identifying their limited capacity proves vital in determining how the therapist chooses to work with clients more effectively. This extends to establishing professional boundaries that often affect the choice of interventions. Pacing is also tied to how the professional establishes boundaries, and I would need to look more keenly into balancing my personal life with professional practice to improve client outcomes. Self-assessment and professional behavior There is a need to act ethically at all times when making decisions that affect the client, and professional practice. For instance, complying with the ethical standards is not optional, highlighting the need to understand and internalize the standards. Additionally, avoiding deliberate violation of the ACA codes is necessary. Professionals should look into the legal implications of their decisions as this has far reaching consequences, when faced with an ethical dilemma (Neukrug & Milliken, 2011). Critical analysis of the issue ensures that one analyzes how the interventions affect the client and professional practice. Relationships should be professional to avoid emotional harm as this compromise professional practice and intervention.
