There are many issues surrounding the death of Jesus. Some believe in the Gospel of Jesus and his death, but a significant majority does not believe in Jesus or in his gospel. However, regardless of the debate and the many contentious issues surrounding the death of Jesus, there are many reasons put forth about why he had to die. The first one is that Jesus died for the sins of the world. As Wright (1999) indicates, the Bible speaks of elements such as “the covenant God and the covenant people, the God who becomes human and dies for the sins of the world, the God who breathes his own breath into his followers and equips them to implement his victory in the world.” These elements mention the first reason why Jesus had to die. Being a God who breathes his own breath into his creation, God did not want to wipe out his beloved. Therefore, he found a way for his son to pay for the wild and disobedient creation.
Secondly, Jesus died to reconcile mankind to God. The Bible says that sin had separated man from God. In Romans Chapter 3 and Verse 23, the Bible notes that “for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” God had a perfect image of mankind and created man in the perfect image he had conceived.
