2] Miriam Thompson moral development in film             To begin with, Miriam occupies the 2nd stage of Kohlberg’s theory moral development since she expected that Odessa would go to work on time, regardless of her circumstances and so no reason why the bus boycott would affect Odessa’s work. However, the two women bonded and she realized that the bus boycott presented the struggles against racial discrimination and segregation.  In the end, she is in stage 5 since she sees a common good to change laws and even defies her husband’s brother and mother who belittle Odessa for being black. 3] Odessa Cotter moral development in film             Odessa begins as a simple housewife and nanny who does not challenge the racial status quo as she states “So the rest of the world around you is living that way, and so you just don't question it”. As such, Odessa Cotter was first at stage 3 where the theory supposes that one pleases others and if those in control approach the decision action it is right. She did not question her situation, but then joined the bus boycott in solidarity with fellow blacks, and even this meant walking for long distances. In the end, she is in stage 6, where universal principles are applicable as she believes in non-violence to achieve change in society
4] Norman Thompson moral development in film             The two heroines in the story are Odessa and Norman, and Norman Thompson’s brother Tunker encourages him to join the segregationist group, the White Citizens Council (WCC). Norman does not change much like the women in the story as he was intent on preserving disposition and standing the society, and that meant downplaying the impact of racial discrimination on blacks.  Norman exhibits lax conscience as he does not think about the moral consequences of his actions and ignored his conscience. Tucker tells him “Norman, don't you understand? If they get by with this bus thing now.” Norman does not object this, as he supported segregation as this is what he had known, but he is less mean spirited than his brother 5] Mary Catherine Mary Catherine the narrator states “I guess there's always something extraordinary about someone who changes... and then changes those around her.” Mary meant that the Montgomery bus strike had altered the way people thought about segregation in the South, and Odessa was involvement in a mass movement to change social practices and institution. Since Mary had interacted with Odessa, even change started  at the Thompson family  and this highlights that Rosa Parks who started the Montgomery bus strike,  and Odessa  a  black housekeeper who changed those around her that  people came  to acknowledge the need to end segregation in Alabama and other parts of the South. 6] Abusive, derogatory and racist language It was necessary to use derogatory and even racist language in the film including the “N” word as this highlights the nastiness and views of the people who held racist views. Segregation was widely accepted that any attempts to address this resulted in backlash. Tunker and his mother were the most zealous supporters of mainlining status quo where blacks were held down.
