The Story of Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Sister Rosetta Tharpe was one of the most famous recording artists during the 1930-1960 period. She burst through the scene due to gospel hit songs, which were a mixture of gospel songs and a little bit of rock and roll. She went on to attain legendary status in the music, which earned her the nickname "The Rock and Roll Godmother." Her guitar playing skills specifically are regarded as one of the best to grace the music industry.
There are quite a lot of lessons that one can learn from her story. Her humble beginnings are arguably the best grounds to start from. She spent the majority of her early childhood in the cotton plant where she and her parents spent made their livelihoods picking cotton. It is quite clear that one’s background should not really be anything to affect where he or she is heading to. The dream is always greater than the cradle. People need to focus on the objectives that will make them better people, rather than having self-pity due to where they come from. Self-pity can easily result in low self-esteem and subsequently, failing to achieve one’s dreams. Such was not the case with Rosetta.
I have also learnt that it is quite important to keep nurturing the specific abilities of people around us, from our siblings, neighbors, friends to our children as well. The society as a whole has an important role to play in the shaping up of an individual’s life.
