Mike is James' father, and as such, he is the legal representation and decision-maker over James' care. James' mother, Joanne, is also his legal agent and decision-maker. With that stated, they should both continue making healthcare decisions for their kid. The physician cannot revoke that right (Kaldjian, 2019). If the physician believes that the parent's decision, Mike's in this situation, is vexing or detrimental to James, the physician cannot revoke the parent's rights. The physician may request the involvement of a healthcare social worker as long as he can justify why the patient's father, Mike, should no longer be permitted to make medical choices for him. If the physician argues that he does not share James' religious ideas or convictions, the physician may consider withdrawing from the case since his prejudice will impact his care. If the parent's actions are detrimental and unreasonable, terminating such rights does not violate the patient's autonomy. Autonomy is simply the capacity of an individual to make their own decisions. It is essentially a kind of respect for patient autonomy since it is being done to safeguard the patient; it allows the patient (or their care provider) to make their own choices and decisions.

To ask "how should a Christian think about sickness and health" is a reasonably challenging issue to answer. Yes, Christians adhere to a particular religion that incorporates beliefs about what a Christian should and should not do (Swihart et al., 2018). However, this is only a suggestion. Do Christians feel that not adhering to these principles is a sin? Some do. However, some feel that they can make their own choices and decisions that do not entirely conform to the Christian worldview, such as medical and health decisions or choices, and still be considered Christians (Hiebert, 2016).
