How to Appropriately Interpret a Document is Essential
Understanding how to appropriately interpret a document is essential. Some interpretations do not convey the author's intended meaning and message. In some instances, poor textual analysis causes readers to miss what the author is attempting to say. The Bible is difficult to understand if literary materials are already challenging to comprehend. Hermeneutics is a way to interpret a text, specifically the text found in the Bible. Therefore, through Hermeneutics, Bible enthusiasts or other religious persons are guided as they interpret the texts (Witherington III, 2015).
There are seven principles in Hermeneutics that can help understand and interpret the Bible. Some of the seven concepts are extensively and frequently applied. These principles are employed because they make biblical interpretation easier and increase text clarity. Furthermore, their views do not clash with those of the church or other faiths. However, the church does not introduce and promote some principles for specific reasons. Nevertheless, these hermeneutical principles can all be utilized in interpreting biblical texts.
Aside from the hermeneutical principles, bible scholars also need to rely on the Holy Spirit. The Bible mentions that an individual needs the Holy Spirit to comprehend the Lord's message thoroughly. Thus, people should not solely depend on their understanding. The hermeneutical principles will only serve as a guide, but the Holy Spirit will still take charge of the whole process. Therefore, the Holy Spirit and the hermeneutical principles work together to guide people who analyze and interpret biblical texts.
It is tedious to interpret a text, especially without losing its real meaning. Thus, people should be careful in interpreting texts. In interpreting texts from the Bible, people should be guided by the hermeneutical principles and the Holy Spirit. However, people must use the most appropriate and convenient hermeneutical principle.
