Repeat Victimization
Repeat victimization entails the reoccurrence of criminal victimization to a vehicle, place, person, business, or household. In other words, it refers to the number of offenses that a victim has encountered a specific crime repeatedly. For example, a particular shop along the street might be a target by multiple gangs due to its location or the worth of jewels it sells. The two primary theoretical explanations of repeat victimization include the flag and boost theories. The boost theory posits that repeat victimization is the effect of a contagion-like process (Daigle, 2018). In that case, when a specific business premise is robbed or burgled, the risk of burglary to that enterprise is boosted. Offenders have a high likelihood of exploiting the opportunities again, particularly if they stole expensive items and were not arrested. They know that even after stealing, the business will continue operating and that the stolen items will be replaced.
