Understanding the various theories regarding one's mind is essential for anyone. It allows him to appreciate better our patterns of learning, thinking, and even our personality and utilize them to improve our day-to-day performance. Accordingly, one of the main theories about developing an individual's personality is the Psychoanalytic Theory. Although there have been many developments in psychoanalytic theory, the most famous and still widely utilized theory was the one developed by Sigmund Freud. The author would like to focus on psychoanalytic theory and its continued application in real life in this article. Overall, the author believes that having a better understanding of this paradigm would allow anyone to utilize it, whether in guiding others or in improving oneself.
Sigmund Freud’s Psychoanalytic Theory
Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalytic Theory was developed as a way of releasing one's repressed desire and beliefs with the end goal of "making the unconscious conscious" CITATION McL19 \l 1033 (McLeod, 2019). This approach stems from the belief that every individual has his repressed thoughts, memories, emotions, and even desires from their childhood, which causes an internal conflict within their minds and personalities. These conflicts then manifest within three main elements, the Id, ego, and the superego, each of which has their respective function in developing one's personality.
