Strategies to Use for Children with ASD Evidence-based practices are essential interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in early childhood. The paper focuses on three strategies historically used for young people with ASD and explains why they are vital to use. The three primary instructional strategies that are vital to use for children with ASD include visuals, limiting sensory overload, and treating students individually. Using visual aid is the most recommended strategy for teaching autistic children. In most cases, young individuals with ASD demonstrate strengths in rote memory, visual-spatial relationships, and concrete thinking (Shelton & Jalongo, 2016). However, they are poor in social cognition, attention, communication, and abstract thinking. In addition, limiting the sensory overload entails creating a conducive environment where children with ASD can concentrate. Things like shouting or blinking lights should be avoided. Another historical instructional strategy that a person prefers to use is handling autistic children individually.
