Social disorganisation theory directly connects crime rates to community ecological traits and an integral principle of this theory indicates that location matters. Basically, this means that the residential location of a person is a significant factor in shaping the chances of a person being involved in illegal affairs. The theory equates a person’s location to other factors that increase the risk of an individual’s future illegal activities such as race, gender and age (Akers, 2017).
