Simon Task Name Institution Simon Task Introduction A shiny object often attracts a person’s attention towards the side of the shining light due to the positive response of the eye or its retina to be specific. Besides the sense of sight, human beings also respond to touch, sound, taste, and smell through their skin, ears, tongue, and nose respectively. How fast or quick they respond to the different stimuli varies from one person to another depending on their unique sensitivities to the same. It is through the senses that human beings coordinate their bodily functions as they send communication to the brain for enacting a particular reaction. The coordination of the bodily actions or movements depends on an entire different system with varied responses from one person to the other on the accuracy and speed of action. How the response to stimulus takes place forms a psychological area of study with concerning the compatibility or lack thereof of the stimulus-response to the respective bodily action. Among the psychological studies conducted on the human phenomenon is the Simon Task effect. Simon task effect is a human compatibility study showcasing the congruence or incongruence between a stimulus and response. Congruence refers to the fast and more accurate response arising from compatibility between the stimulus and features of the response. Incongruence, on the other hand, refer to the slow and inaccurate response often arising from incompatibility between the two outlined factors. Provided herein is a Simon Task conducted on 23 participants to study the compatibility of human response to a given stimulus. Hypothesis Human beings react to a wide range of feelings, emotions, and even things that they come across depending on how sensitive they are towards the outlined factors. Such factors which invoke or rather stimulate an equally distinct reactions from an individual are known as stimulus. A stimulus is thus anything that creates a particular response from an organism such as a human being or a person. According to the Simon Task effect, a person responds faster and with more accuracy to a stimulus if the features of both the response and the stimulus match or are compatible CITATION Psy18 \l 1033 (Psytoolkit, 2018). Methodology The test involved 23 college students from both the junior and senior levels across the gender, racial, and age divides. The participants consisted of 18 female and 5 male students, which translated to 78.26% and 21.74% of the registered responses respectively. There were no transgender participants in the Simon Task experiment. The racial constitution of the participants added the element of diversity in the experiment and thus providing a diversified stimuli-response to compatibility study. Among the participants were 2 African Americans, 8 Asian, 8 Hispanic, 1 Native American, and 4 Whites. The percentage contribution to the responses across the racial divide reflected as follows; 8.7% African American, 34.78% for both the Asian and Hispanics, 4.35% Native Americans, and 17.39% for the White students.
