Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung are well-known figures in the field of psychology. They were related at one point in time, but they eventually split. Their ideas and actions had a significant impact on the lives of many people. Despite their shared backgrounds and commonalities, Jung and Freud's ideas are completely antithetical. Their opposing viewpoints on the ego are significant and arguable.
Sigmund Freud is a prominent figure in psychology. He proposed the psychoanalysis personality theory. It was the fundamental structure of the individual personality, consisting of the id, superego, and ego. The id is the portion of the mind which reflects rational or irrational desires; this is known as the "pleasure principle." Although it is not recommended to be guided by the id, many people do so. The super-ego is formed during childhood and functions as a moral conscience. And the ego uses the "reality principle" to intervene between the superego and id’s desires. The ego prevents people from acting up using their id only, while also achieving a balance with the superego. The ego is defined as a person's conscious thoughts, memories, and perceptions that empower them to live in reality. A person’s conduct and character are formed through the combination of the id, superego, and ego. Finally, Freud holds that the ego has a negative influence on emotions (Zhang, 2020).
Carl Jung's contributions to psychology are also well-known. He is regarded as one of the twentieth-century intellectuals.
