Essay Instructions:

please answer this in the vioce of a 26 year old male who is an architect with 4 siblings
1) “What is one thing that stood out to you about your theme description (ie one of their strengths)?”
(my strength is learner)
Things to think about/things we discussed in person, although you don't have to answer all of these in writing:
How does it relate to your life and experience?
Was there anything you were surprised by?
Who do you think you work best with?
What makes your strength profile unique?

2) How do your strengths support (or not) the work you currently do (or want to do)?
talk about haviung the learner strength help alot in the feild of architecture
What type of strengths would be successful in this job?
Are these your strengths?
What attracts you to this job?
Do you feel motivated by it? Why or why not?
Activity #1 Favorite Mentor:
Who motivated YOU to learn or inspired you to try harder in something than you otherwise would have (at work, in your life, in sports etc)? Take 5 minutes to think about this privately, jot down some notes if it helps. Think about:
○ What was their name?
○ What characteristics did they have?
○ What inspired you to do your best?
○ How did you respond to their efforts?
Think back to the important qualities of MI: Partnership (to work alongside, in harmony), Acceptance (radical acceptance of the client/employee as a person), Compassion (sharing in concern/care for your client/employee and acting on their behalf), and Evocation (working to bring out the best in the other person).
Talk about my high school civil engineing and architecture teacher who sparked and inspired my aspriation to become an architect desginer
Now, consider the characteristics of your favorite mentor and how do they overlap (or not) with the important qualities of MI (partnership, acceptance, compassion, and evocation)? Please write your response in this discussion post.

Activity #2 Watching Out for the Righting Reflex
The righting reflex comes from a good place - you want to help. The righting reflex is the desire to fix what seems wrong with someone and set them on a better course to help but this is ineffective and often disruptive. Instead, appreciate that most people who need to make a change are ambivalent about doing so (they both want to change and don’t want to change at the same time). We also know that people are more likely to be persuaded to do something, if they hear themselves say it. Let’s help them with this. If you listen, you will hear people talk about their change talk (why they want to change) and their sustain talk (why they don’t want to change). Don’t ever try to convince your client/employee why they should change because you put them in a position to connect more deeply with their sustain talk. Listen to these examples and let’s discuss how to promote change talk.
1) Your wellness coaching client says, “I want to lose ten pounds but I have tried everything and it just not worth it.”
What can you say in response to promote change talk? Please write your response in this discussion post.

2) You are an HR executive and an employee at work says, “My boss is just an a**hole. There is nothing I can do about it. I know he will never really value my work so it is best I just put my head down, do what I have to do, and leave as soon as possible."
What can you say in response to promote change talk? Please write your response in this discussion post.
