The effects of historical trauma from colonization and cultural oppression of the Indigenous population remain persistent in society. This is because it contributed to the existent health disparities among individuals considering that they suffered psychological distress that has since been passed down to many generations past the difficult times. During World War II, the Jewish community suffered genocide attacks from the German Nazis, which has proven devastative. Although the contexts of the Holocaust and the historical oppression of the Indigenous people differ in several ways, politics is the main perpetrator in causing the catastrophe. In short, the focus on psychological adaptation processes of a population enables the prediction of psychological illness of the victims and their offspring. Thus, the Indigenous people's historical trauma has persisted because they have remained attached to their past, unlike the Jewish community who distant themselves from it.
From the text, the Indigenous population's oppression has affected subsequent generations since they have been unable to stop it. Holocaust, on the other hand, made the Jewish community focus on healing for a specific period, which resulted in different handling of life after the happening. Therefore, why have the Indigenous populations taken ages to distant themselves from their past trauma?
