• Have you ever experienced acculturative stress (e.g., culture shock) or known someone who has? Briefly describe your/their experience. Do you think it is an experience of acculturation, assimilation, or segmented assimilation and why?
• Growing up, what factor(s) were most influential in your ethnic identity development? If your ethnic identity was not salient to you growing up, what kind of adjustments did you undergo with regard to the development of your most central identity or identities?

CH. 4 ACCULTURATION
Models of acculturation outline the ways in which people respond to the introduction of a new culture or ethnic group. Depending on individual characteristics and social circumstances, such experiences can have a negative impact on physical and/or mental health.
CH. 5 IDENTITIES – RACIAL/ETHNIC IDENTITY
Each of us possesses a number of identities (e.g., racial, ethnic, gender, sexual, social class) and those identities can be more or less salient depending on the situation at hand.
CH. 6 FAMILY
Factors that can affect the family structure and household arrangements can include but are not limited to migration, socioeconomic status, exposure to stress and trauma, and cultural values and beliefs.
