By use of geometry, the surface area of the lake was calculated by turning the classification raster map into a polygon file (Raster to Polygon (Conversion), n.d.). Figure 1 below shows the map of the water study area. As depicted in tables 1.0 and 1.1, in 1998, the lake stretches 5,267 km2, but by 2014, the number drops to 738 km2.
