Abstract
Air travel is the fastest and safest means of transport. Through air travel, most people have managed to reconnect with their families who reside in different parts of the world. Moreover, air travel has helped people break various geographical barriers, which seemed impossible to break in the past. Even though air travel is considered the safest means of transport, studies suggest that it contributes to a high number of casualties across the world. Just like all man-made items, planes are prone to develop mechanical problems, which may later distort the way they function. Therefore, to curb the occurrence of these crashes, this study will offer a detailed investigation into some of the different factors that contribute to crashes and suggest the preventions and measures that can be put into place. The causes of air crashes being examined were recorded by WAAS and NTSB between the year 1990 and 2006.

Introduction
Despite the extreme focus on the safety of flights before and after take-off, aircrafts face numerous accidents every year. Some of these crashes can be avoided through a successful emergency landing, but others are fatal, thus leading to the death of all passengers and the complete destruction of the aircraft.
