In “I became a manager before I knew how to lead effectively,” Monroe (2020) offers insights about essential management knowledge, experiences and skills all managers should have prior to being actually managers. The article is informed by Monroe’s long experience managing work groups cutting across different functions and activities. According to Monroe, managers need to learn first of all how to manage.
