Identify three management traits that the leader possesses, and explain why they are necessary to a successful manager.

What are the possible disadvantages of having these traits?

This paper talks about a fictional movie character taking a managerial role. It describes his personality and his traits, which puts him in the best position of leadership. His leadership traits are further applied to real-life experience.
The character’s personality can be described as openness; this means that he is original, curious, innovative, intellectual, and open to new ideas (Stead, Stead & Starik, 2004). He is also encouraged and motivated to learn new skills. His open-mindedness leads him to find a lot of information and feedback on how he is doing and helps in building a relationship, which hastens his adjustments to a new job. He is very adaptable to change. The notable weakness is that he is prone to becoming easily bored and impatient with the routine.
He developed management traits through the following ways: Going back to school, reading a lot, and attending training and workshops. He went back to school attending evening classes on a graduate certificate in management. He also read management theory books as he was doing self-education and also watched videos from YouTube on management. Finally, he attended workshops on management, which helped him further equipping his managerial skills (Dessler & Phillips, 2008).
The three managerial traits he possesses are as follows: First of all, he focuses on employees’ strengths. There are measurable advantages in a strength-based workplace. It increases employee retention in high turnover industries as well as increasing profit. It also decreases safety incidents. Secondly, he recognizes and rewards good work. Employee recognition boosts his individual engagement and also increases productivity and loyalty to the industry, which eventually leads to higher retention. Lastly, he communicates honestly. A great manager gives direct feedback and does not hide truths. Employees always thinks they can count on straight answers from their boss. The employee will have trouble improving if they don’t understand which behavior is problematic (Carlopio et al., 2012).
