Coworkers often enter into some form of conflict in the organization that is unhealthy for the organization's performance. I believe it is an organizational behavior that needs to be addressed before it brings down its ratings. An organization accommodates people with different personalities and ego levels, so many disagreements and conflicts in an organization. In defense of ego, coworkers conflict and end up having lousy blood within working environments. Several theories, including attribution theory, explain why such behaviors exist. This paper explores the attribution theory and how it explains the genesis of conflicts within an organization.
Attribution theory explores how ordinary people explain individual behavior. For example, explaining whether someone is hungry because he is bad-tempered or went through something terrible in life that changed him. This theory, therefore, uses gathered information about a situation to make a judgment about an event. This theory has two essential categories, the dispositional and situational attributions (Shaver, 2016). Dispositional attribution attributes a person's behavior to his internal characteristics like motives, personality, and beliefs instead of external reasons related to the organization.
In most cases, we attribute a person's behavior to theirs. On the other hand, situational attribution attributes a person's behavior to external factors instead of internal characteristics like dispositional attribution. When we try to explain some of our behavior, we often link it to our environments and organizations' working conditions.
