HRM Implication of Angelo’s Strategy
Angelo's three main strategies include training his employees on the job, hiring suitable employees, and having his managers help him run the stores. Angelo is very busy with the store and has no time to train his employees. As a result, he trains them on the job. Unfortunately, new employees are not used to the pressure and quit within a month. In the end, his on-the-job training strategy will negatively affect his stores, particularly if he is running a franchise. Training employees on the job is ineffective and leads to high turnover. He needs specific training time and a probation period for all his employees. Assigning the new employees a supervisor to guide them and review their performance would be the best option for training employees.
Angelo is also particular about hiring new employees. He once fired a customer for saying profanity several times a day. He also identifies his employees' traits and personalities to decide what role suits them best. However, wanting to hire the right employees is not enough. Angelo needs solid recruitment and training plan for his employees. He should seek employees who at least have previous experience in a similar job if he does not have time to train. It will save on training time and costs and reduce turnover rates. Moreover, he should find ways to motivate his employees to keep working for him.
Lastly, Angelo uses managers to help him run the stores. He does not give them any extra training as he assumes they have been working with him and thus learned from him. Hiring novice managers without experience in managing has enormous implications on a store's overall performance. They can easily make decisions that hurt the company if they have no idea what they are doing. Angelo should set out a specific period to train his managers. The high employee turnover is also partially due to poor management. He should understand that adequately managing the stores, employees, and customers is a significant factor in the success of his business. He should make time to extensively train his managers as time consumed training them will become cost-efficient in the end.
HRM Errors
* The first mistake that Angelo makes is that he manages everything himself. He does not have a team to help him manage the store efficiently and train employees. As a result, he overloads himself and his employees, resulting in high turnover rates and poor management.
* Due to inefficiency, Angelo does not train his managers, which will hurt his business in the long run. He assumes his managers know how to manage a store based on their previous experience working with him; therefore, they do not need extra training. However, this is not true because he has worked with them does not necessarily mean they paid attention to how he ran the store. Management is complex, and without proper training of his employees, it leads to high turnover rates, as Angelo experiences in his stores, and even financial losses.
* Angelo does not spend much time training his new employees. Instead, he practices on-job-trainin...
