What Employment Laws Need to be Considered to Prevent Discrimination?
The company should consider anti-discrimination laws to prevent discrimination in the workplace. Anti-discrimination laws are legislations designed to bar employers from engaging in discriminatory practices. These laws advocate for the rights and freedom of employees. They make it unlawful for the company to discriminate against employees and job applicants based on race, gender, national origin, color, religion, disability, or age (Gao, 2017). The laws also protect an employee who files a complaint, participates in the investigation, or opposes illegitimate employment practices from possible retaliation by the company. Examples of anti-discriminatory laws the firm should consider include Title VII of the civil rights Act of 1964, the Equal Pay Act of 1963, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Title VII protects employees and job applicants from employment from any form of employment discrimination. It also prohibits employers from retaliating against workers or applicants who exercise their legal rights (Gao, 2017). The Equal Pay Act protects employees who perform equal work from sex-based wage discrimination. ADA prevents discrimination against people with disabilities in all aspects of life, including employment. It requires employers to fully consider individuals with a disability during the hiring process and provide reasonable workplace accommodation.
