Developing Leadership Skills among Family Members
Leadership skills are not only essential within organizations but essential in families. Traditionally, the parent(s) has assumed the leadership role- providing direction and acting as the voice of the family. However, with the several issues affecting families today, there is a need for family workers to develop leadership skills in all family members. The results of developing these skills among all members are as follows.
Cohesiveness
Equipping family members with leadership skills results in cohesiveness because members learn the significance of nurturing relationships. They can amicably bridge differences and conflicts between two parties (for example, parents or siblings), protecting children (if any are involved) against developing emotional, mental, and behavioral health issues. A cohesive family unit also means that family members create and share opportunities of spending time together. Recent evidence suggests that many families lack time together because of several external stressors such as striking a work-life balance, financial management issues, and household duties (Sege et al., 2017).
