Communication enables people to understand and relate seamlessly with others. Different cultures, such as professional disciplines, also require healthy communication and noble relations between employees and employers. Leaders should possess decent communication skills for the effective running of the businesses and good rapport with the juniors. Good interactions often lead to common grounds where individuals mutually agree on facts, beliefs, and norms for a good understanding. Therefore, as leaders, the need for common grounds during communication offers effective and efficient relations with the juniors, thus, building trust, confidence, and respect.
To build a firm understanding and mutual agreements, one needs a robust communication strategy facilitated through active listening, activism, and inquiry (Luciara, 2017). Jianguo is an example of a leader who faced hindrances by ignoring common ground. When he became a global leader, he resisted change since he was used to China’s structured business management, while Deronde is a worldwide enterprise that requires liberal operations.
Other executives became annoyed since Jianguo listened to their opinions relentlessly and failed to accommodate the new environment’s culture through an open mindset. (Nohria et al., 2009).
