The case study is about the experience of a worker in the Bio-Tek Corporation, a rapidly growing bio-tech company involved with research and development of diagnostic healthcare products using genetic engineering techniques. The writer claims that the company’s management is a liability since the executives are mostly scientists who are not trained in management and behavior and hence put more focus on profits rather than the people. The lack of investment in the employees has led to low morale among the workers within the corporation. Being a new worker, the writer works hard, but the other employees, who are visibly complacent, warn that his efforts will go unrewarded. However, despite the low salary, the writer worked way past 5.00 pm and even on the weekend to finish the work at the office. The effort was regardless of the fact that other employees left immediately after 5.00 pm and wasted a lot of time during the day. Through his insistence and hard work, the sales went up. After all the sacrifice and even putting his studies on the line, the worker expects to be rewarded, but the other employees are skeptical.
