Before reading John Maxwell’s article, I considered honesty and integrity the defining traits and behaviors of a successful leader. Honesty and integrity are indispensable traits of a successful leader. In implementing their job duties, leaders need to show honesty and integrity by keeping their work, honoring their commitments, recognizing their roles and responsibilities, staying focused, and maintaining effective relationships with others, including treating subordinates with courtesy and respect (Kapur, 2020). John Maxwell recommends honest communication as one of the important traits and behavior for effective leaders.
