Every company primarily aims to render quality products and services to its consumers to guarantee satisfaction and market boom. Aside from the business transactions that the corporations are prioritizing, respecting their employees’ human rights, and securing the impact of the corporation to the society, economy, and environment are still some of the goals that a business should always keep responsible of together with their operations. This is the reason why a CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility management concept has been established in order to assimilate social and conservation concerns in the industry not only to achieve balance imperatives but to address the expectations of stakeholders and shareholders at the same time. In this article, we will analyze the CSR conflict that one of the international companies, particularly; Walmart faced which marked to be a turning point for the CSR policies of this business. Walmart’s response to the problem will be evaluated, as well as on how the business resolved the conflict and to identify whether the company has executed explicit CSR policies with quantifiable targets as a response to the problem.
Walmart Supercenters are considered to be a global legislator. Despite their success in offering groceries and general merchandise worldwide, the corporation still manages to regulate the behaviors of their employees among its suppliers around the globe. This is to ensure that the respect for the working conditions of the supplier’s employees and ethical conduct are not being compromised by the extent of globalizing product quality. In fact, Walmart even published their annual reports in corresponding to every single aspect of CSR issues to simply point out to their consumers their transparency and accountability as part of their acted responsibilities. However, as like other well-established companies, Walmart was not able to escape the conflicts criticizing their management practice and CSR. The revolutionary conflicts that the company experienced were mainly caused by an organization factor conflict. A national class against Walmart's violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 has been the first obstacle. They were assaulted of having gender discrimination among women.
