Many people wonder how hell looks like; people often visualize hell in different ways as they contemplate on its existence. One of the common notion is that hell is a physical chamber filled will monster like what we see in movies. The concept portrayed by Neil Gaiman in the short story " Other People " presents hell as a place where one experience pain, both physically and psychologically (Dalton, Morcom & Graham, 2015).
"Other people" is a story about a man who goes to hell, dressed in expensive clothes with an arrogant attitude finds himself in a gray room. A demon stands at the far end of the walls. The man being a businessperson broke some rule to deserve his fate. "The scary demon takes down the wall a cat o nine tail made of frayed wire and tortures the businessman" (Dalton, Morcom & Graham, 2015). People visualize hell as a place where sinful people are burnt to death; Neil confirms that hell is a place where people pay for their sins.
Pain and suffering are the main story themes; the story presents the physical and mental tortures the man went through in hell making him lose his will to survive. In the story, the demon uses all his two hundred and eleven torture devices causing pain and suffering to the businessperson. "The scars on his body are deep and painful"(Dalton, Morcom & Graham, 2015). The hell presented by Neil is no ordinary there is no eternal fire we do not see other sinners except for a man and a demon.
