Detroit is located in the seat of Wayne County at South-Eastern Michigan in the United States of America. It is situated along the Detroit River which connected the 2 lakes Erie and St. Clair which was opposite to Windsor, Ontario Canada. The history of Detroit states that it was founded in the year 1701 by Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac who was a French trader. Initially, the first structure built on what would be the modern Detroit was a fort called Fort Pontchartrain du Detroit. The word Detroit actually meant strait, and the British pronunciation of the French word became simple and modified.
The geographical location of this city featured a vast flat plain. In its history, it has transformed and grown, as it has experienced various events and catalysts for change and progress. In 19th century, a hexagonal street pattern was planned, and today, some of the remnants of these roads still remain as visages from the past. The downtown area contains the complex of the commercial buildings and the large-industry owned centers. This area serves as the central hub for various modern buildings that boast intricate architecture and practical modern use. One of the significant buildings in this area the City-County Building, a Museum, a Convention Hall, Cobo Arena, the Renaissance Center which even includes a 73-level hotel building. By the Northwest, the cities other museums, libraries, and parks are situated. The community of Hamtramck and the Highland Park are surrounded by the city-scape.
In history, this city served as a major trading hub for various products from different regions around the area. Because of its location, it became a major central hub for business and habitation opportunities. Plenty industries were focused on gathering raw materials to be traded to other cities. In year 1805, the city became the capital of the Michigan Territory, which was then, a newly created territory. During that year, a great fire happened which destroyed plenty of buildings in the downtown area. The destroyed area was later rebuilt as it was a central area that played a key role in the city economics. In the war of 1812, Detroit was surrendered to the British in 1812, but Americans were able to reconquer it in September 1813. Finally, in 1815, the Detroit area was inaugurated as a proper City.
The river served a great role in the city’s economics and trade, as well as travel and tourism. In the year 1818, steamboats served as transportation for Buffalo, New York, and Detroit. Products such as corn, rice, wheat, and other grains were brought into the city so that it can be processed and packed. The trains and boats were the mode of transportation of choice for transporting the huge amounts of raw material. The processed goods were sold to other parts of US and Europe.
