Techno-Taylorism is an aspect that affects modern skilled and unskilled workers in large factories and corporations. Initially, Taylorism's method of scientific management involved breaking the employee's power over their working pace and way of operations in factories by dissembling skilled jobs into multiple smaller unskilled ones and thereby shifting the power to the factory owners (Guendelsberger, 2019, p. 75). This essay evaluates such methods in modern corporations like Amazon, whose workforce composes thousands of employees.
Depression at work started earlier on with the invention of methods like the division of labor (Guendelsberger, 2019, p. 74). Large factories assume that if profits increase, they will be passed down to the workforce as wages or work incentives. This aspect may be right, but what is the cost of increased labor productivity? Guendelsberger narrates having an endless and tiresome schedule the whole week. She explains of sleeping off the minute she sits down at home and having to wake up as early as four o clock in the morning. Such aspects make it much harder for the unskilled population to work in places other than Techno-Taylorized workplace environments like Amazon (Muhlbauer & Harry, 2017, p. 64). Modern workplace operation's management methods have killed the morale of the employees and stripping out more skills from workplaces. Thus, the result has been hiring thousands of the unskilled personnel for temporary positions rather than incentivizing the skilled to stay or improving their experience at work. The executives and owners have taken the power of the skilled. Time theft, overworking, reduced job satisfaction, and boredom like the endless countdown on Guendelsberger's scanner while working are instances of the problems workers are facing in modern work environments.
