Stress is an ignorant state. It believes that everything is an emergency.
In this quotation, stress is related to the imperative nature of our bodies to respond to risks or threats that compromise our comfort and survival. It is scientifically proven that our bodies are designed to protect ourselves from anything we perceive to be dangerous. During emergencies, our bodies change and adopt a fight or flight mode in response to the situation or event. The mode is activated by the brain, which causes the pituitary glands to secrete hormones, which stimulate the adrenal glands. The hormones secreted trigger responses to the emergency, which puts the body under stress (Take 2 Healthcare, 2017). The hormones produced help to generate energy that enables a person to react or run away from the danger. Nevertheless, there are some people who have abused their systems affecting their organs such as livers and thyroids, which lack to function effectively making the adrenals that produce hormones in times of emergency to engage in functions of providing energy for daily use. The adrenals are not meant to be used for prolonged periods because it leads to adrenal exhaustion (Take 2 Healthcare, 2017). Nevertheless, the adrenals are not the primary issues, but the final result of a long-term stress period.
From these insights, the state of believing everything is an emergency leads to stressful conditions, as the brain engages the adrenals in sustained energy production. In this light, stress is an ignorant state in that a person can avoid the situations that cause one to perceive everything is an emergency. The exhaustion of the adrenals leads to a stressful condition that is exemplified by low production of energy making it hard for people to be productive, reduced immune health making people more susceptible to illnesses, and sleep disturbances.
