How has the Community Changed During The COVID-19 pandemic?
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all the countries on the planet. Governments had to restrict the movement of people within a country, direct for fewer gatherings, and for people to keep a distance from each other for months as the most common method of managing the disease. These restrictions have affected different communities in different ways. This essay is a reflection of the last year during the pandemic and how it has changed the community.
One of the changes I noticed was how people were doing business. The online business community became robust, and many small businesses decided to use the local courier services to still deliver products to their clients. To attract more clients, these businesses advertised their products and services more aggressively on social media websites like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp in the hope of making sales. Even the companies that were run by people who avoided social media joined into the practice. With so many businesses springing up on social media, I often how many survived the whole period of the pandemic.
People were more kind of each other. Many lost their jobs in the first month when countries were imposing travel restrictions. The landlords allowed many tenants whose leases were up to stay in their units until things got better. Some of these were families, and both parents had lost their job and needed all the support. Neighbors would send money and food to these people to sustain them. Many people were open to helping each other. The movement of people was restricted, especially to the older people. This frustrated some people in some family settings. This frustration, in turn, leads some into domestic violence.
There was a lot of education from the government, teaching people about the symptoms and the preventive measures. The police did patrols to ensure everyone moved within the borders. They also assisted the social workers in doing some deliveries, especially to those families that were in quarantine because they were infected. Reducing interactions with sick people was important, but it was also important to make sure that they had food and medicines delivered to them.
