The Scarborough Center for Healthy Communities.
The Scarborough center for healthy communities' purpose is to the Scarborough society with health programs and services. These programs and services are designed to reach the marginalized people in society and the seniors. The organization recognizes the importance of creating health awareness in society, and thus, they have created 40 programs to help create a healthy society. If a community has many seniors and marginalized people, it is important to ensure those people have good health. Failure to which their poor health will affect the whole community emotionally and financially.
Therefore, the Scarborough center for healthy communities aims to prevent the community from having this burden. The organization has a formal mission which is to meet the diverse health needs of the community. Their mission would be achieved by addressing the social, physical, mental, environmental, and financial aspects that affect people's health. The Scarborough center for healthy communities has developed various programs that will effectively address the above issues.
A board of directors governs the Scarborough center for healthy communities. All of the directors are community-based. The organization has a large staff of more than 200 employees and 400 volunteers. This huge number of staff enables the organization to reach out to many people through its programs. It offers the community members an opportunity to volunteer.
The organization was founded in 1977 by a group of community agencies, leaders, and volunteers. These individuals identified the emerging social and health needs within the community that needed to be addressed.
Since the organization was formed, it has become one of the best in the province. The organization has ten sites that work to improve the community's health. It has been providing medical assistance through various clinics and has a social support program. The organization has and continues to partners with individuals with similar goals for the community. The Scarborough center for healthy communities has grown from having one site to having ten. Currently, the organization has employed more than 200 people and has more than 475 volunteers. It provides 40 integrated programs to help improve people's health (Jacobs, 2017).
The Scarborough center for healthy communities obtains its funding from donations. The donations can be made by single individuals or by other organizations. An example is the Scheinberg Relief Fund which has enabled the organization to offer support to the elderly and reduce the causes of food insecurity (Jacobs, 2017). Food insecurity and loneliness among the elderly have affected many people in Scarborough, which motivates people and organizations to donate to the Scarborough center for healthy communities.
