Introduction
Based on my research from news and articles collected for a number of weeks one of the issues I wish to focus on is the use of social media to encourage sporting among the youths. Social media is one of the ways that youths can use to promote sports not only in Canada but across the globe. This is the most effective tool among the youths that can be used to further participation in sports. Diverse social networking service that refers to sporting websites or online platform are visited by youths for social interaction. Social networking services are used to facilitate the development of social relations and networks among youths who share the same interests, real-life connections or sporting activities (Accardi, 2010).
Social Networks Role in Encouraging Sporting
Youths widely spends a good share of their time on social networking sites to share ideas, events and activities within their different networks. The main types of socials networks offers ways to search and share information with for example former schoolmates or classmates, means to connect with friends, and recommendation systems for timeline and other posts. Popular modern methods combine social networking services for finding categorical places with American-based services such as Facebook, Google+, and Twitter. In Canada, the most used local social network service by the Canadian young adults is Nexopia (Accardi, 2010).
Social networks can therefore be used to promote sporting as fans are able to spot and share exclusive contents that influence sporting activities way beyond the television and other traditional media platforms. Youthful fans are always using Social Media channels to find sports updates, create updates and interact with their fellow fans. This means that fans use the social media platforms to interact with their teams, players and other individuals thereby influencing other people to engage in sports.
For example according to http://mashable.com/2014 more than 285 million active users in Twitter. There are official accounts In Twitter, for celebrities or famous sports personalities where there fans or any other person can easily interact with them. By interacting with professional players research shows that this can highly influence and inspire other upcoming young players. Celebrities in sports world can use social media channels and make a big impact to encourage youths as well as to promote sports among them. An example is Kaká, who plays for AC Milan, whose Official Twitter page has 21,886,996 as by February 13, 2015, and counting. This is an amazing number to encourage youths to sports across the globe.
The market itself through social networks places sports oriented advertisements for teams and specific game that they are sponsoring. The diagram below presents that example of how social networks is effective in encouraging sports among the youths;
