Introduction
Teachers play an integral part in teaching children across different levels of the development process. From an early age, learners must be exposed to different scenarios to understand better how to communicate and express themselves. Consequently, a teacher’s role in promoting language learning and literacy cannot be underplayed. By presenting, disseminating, and creating impressions on the learners, teachers provide development and improved literacy opportunities. Furthermore, the teacher's role expands with the increased learning capacity of the learners, thus providing opportunities for improvement in the teaching techniques. Language and literacy form the basis for education by introducing the skills required for further learning processes. Therefore, teachers must ensure that they can impart these skills to their learners, thus improving their ability to learn.
Role as a Model
Learners spend a significant amount of time with teachers during the learning phase from a young age. Therefore, they are likely to pick up on the behaviors displayed by their teachers while interacting. Furthermore, the home environment may not be adequate to expose them to proper care due to differences in status and upbringing that the individual learners may experience (Saha & Dworkin, 2009). Therefore, a teacher must provide a model example by employing techniques that help learners achieve better both at school and at home. This ensures that the learners get experiences geared towards a better understanding of the concepts used in the learning process.
A teacher must ensure that the classroom environment makes all the learners feel comfortable enough to express their feelings and opinions. By having such experiences, learners can learn how to interact efficiently and develop their language skills through their teachers and their fellow learners (Saha & Dworkin, 2009). Creating such an environment displays the level of care of commitment and attention the teacher puts through the first impression on the learners. Young learners are impressionable and thus pick up on little things that they observe from adults thus, teachers become a learning avenue for them. A teacher who can make good impressions on the learners will have a positive impact on their learning experiences, thus improving their overall literacy rates. For instance, language skills can be learned simply from the teacher's ability to express words appropriately in the classroom. Therefore, a teacher who can properly use his/her language skills makes it easier for them to catch up on them, thus improving their learning.

A teacher acts as a source of information to learners as they develop, thus providing them with the required aspects to enhance their learning process.
