Reflection: Department of Applied Foreign Language

During these past 3 years in the Department of Applied Foreign Language, I have learned many deep lessons not just of languages, but understanding life. It has been enjoyable but it also has its share of challenges and obstacles. However, it has taught me how to become better at perceiving the world and communicating with others. Communication is a very important thing. It allows people to arrive at a common understanding. Learning Foreign Language is hard, but it is undoubtedly useful. Beyond having the capability to understand what others are saying, an individual can understand the context and culture that define another who speaks a different language.
At first, I was afraid that I could not follow the lessons. But, as classes progressed, I found myself being indulged in Applied Foreign Language studies. Learning a new language has taught me how to focus and how to put my attention to detail. Languages are structures of the human mind. Each language holds a different syntax to how the world of reality is interpreted.
