“Tragedy into Policy: A quantitative study of Nurses’ attitudes towards patient advocacy activities,”article depict quantifiable inquiry for several reasons. First, the conducting of the research was aimed at collecting opinion, attitudes and making observations, and then consolidating the information into data transformed into statistics, thereby becoming the facts of the research. Second, the research focuses on testing a pre-specific concept or hypothesis that informs a narrative (Creswell, 2013, pp. 155-158). In this study, the pre-conceived hypothesis is that nurses often faced retaliation whenever they reported cases of patient endangerment. Third, a quantitative research necessitates for fixed responses such as yes and no in this research, to make it possible to analyze them in numerical figures. The research, “Communication by nurses in the Intensive care unit: qualitative analysis of domains of patient-centered care,” is described as a qualitative study as it researches with the primary goal of defining a phenomenon or a situation comprehensively (Brief, 2012, pp. 8-9). Further, qualitative research utilizes methods of collecting data such as interviews and observation that gives the respondents the opportunity to provide unstructured or semi-structured responses, opinions that wholly giving in-depth information (Brief, 2012, pp.9).
The selection of these two research articles was because they distinctly brought out the two research studies namely qualitative and quantitative study. For instance, the author, Lisa Black primary purpose of conducting the research was to cultivate a survey that sought to determine the attitude the Registered Nurses in Nevada had experienced towards activities aimed at advocating for patient’s well-being.
