Introduction
Migration is examined as the movement of individuals from their home country to another. It is critical to understand that migration is considered as a crucial issue in different countries, including the United States. Various issues are likely to facilitate the movement of people from one country to another; these may include the desire for better living standards that might motivate an individual to relocate to a country where there are high job opportunities and higher wage rates. Additionally, people may move to a country where they are likely to receive better and quality education. Most importantly, people may be forced to move from their home country by factors that are beyond their control, such as political instability and wars and natural disasters. This literature asserts that migration promotes economic growth, increase competition in the labor force, promote innovation, facilitate development through remittance, and increase the fiscal burden and result in loss of talent for the sending countries.
Impacts of Migration
Migration promotes the economic growth of the receiving country; ideally, immigrants are low-skilled and are willing to undertake jobs that may be considered as undesirable to the educated natives. For instance, migrants can occupy certain sectors such as mining and can provide home care services, thus allowing the skilled workers to remain in the labor market. Although non-native people occupy sectors that are highly dependent on human labor, immigrants are likely to face stiff resistance from the natives who accuse them of unnecessary competition (Kerr & Kerr, 2011). In the U.S. for example, there is usually too much hostility against people of Hispanic descent due to what Americans believe to be job losses. In other terms, they believe that these Hispanic immigrants come into their country to take away the jobs otherwise meant for them. The hostility that foreign nationals meet is attributed to the fact that employers are likely to offer job opportunities to immigrants than natives because the cost of maintaining them is relatively low. Additionally, the highly skilled migrants can occupy sectors such as information technology and healthcare, which is essential in ensuring that these crucial sectors are not understaffed. In other terms, immigrants are an important contribution to both the high and lower sectors of the economy of the receiving nation. They offer their skills in all the sectors, hence contributing greatly towards economic growth of the receiving country.
Furthermore, non-native workers are crucial in generating positive competition in the labor force. The natives are required to compete directly for the jobs available in the various industries; such competition minimizes the cost of labor, which in return results in lower prices of products. The customers benefit from this competition because they buy commodities and get services at low prices. Ottaviano, Perie & Wright (2018) assert that non-natives help in creating a cost-reduction effect, which is essential for the companies in the receiving country because it increases their productivity, thus making them...
