There is a broad spectrum of human behavior, feelings and thoughts that can be considered to be normal in the general population. However, there are some extreme personality behaviors that depict a flaw in the inherent personality of a person. Personality disorder is considered to be an enduring pattern in the inner experiences of a person and the behavior that exhibits characteristics that are stable over time, deviates from the expected culture, inflexible or pervasive and distressing to the person. Unlike diagnosis of mental disorders, personality disorders are coded under Axis II of the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (Nursing care of clients with mental disorders, n.d.).
There are 11 personality disorders according to the American psychiatric association, categorized under three clusters namely; (A) odd and eccentric, (B) dramatic and emotional, (C) anxiety and fear-based personality.
